Preheat oven and prepare cake batter as directed by packaging (water, eggs, and vegetable oil listed are presumed to be the ingredients in the cake batter).

Fill cupcakes 1/3 of the way full with cake batter. Bake for 5 minutes.

Place one peanut butter cup onto each partially baked cupcake, then fill with additional batter. Bake for the remainder of the time as instructed on the cake mix packaging.

Frosting

When cupcakes are cool, prepare frosting. In a large bowl, with mixer on medium-low speed, beat butter, cream cheese, and peanut butter until smooth and blended. Add powdered sugar slowly, incorporating fully after each addition. Add cool whip and beat until smooth and creamy.
